CRCHI has developed direct pipe laying machines which are new-type trenchless construction method. This method ensures that excavation and pipeline laying are carried out simultaneously. They are widely used in construction of small diameter water diversion tunnels, water drainage tunnels, oil pipeline, etc.

Working principles of direct pipe laying machine

A direct pipe laying machine excavates the tunnel like a pipe jacking machine with slurry pressure balance as support. It is mainly composed of two parts which are a tunnel boring machine and a pipe thruster. The special feature of direct pipe laying machines is that the tail part of the machine is welded to the pipeline which can be pre-laid for hundreds or even thousands of meters before excavation. As the machine advances forward, the pipeline is jacked into the ground by the pipe thruster. Therefore, there is no need for pipe installation during a drive. When the excavation is completed, pipe laying is finished. 

Features of CRCHI¡¯s direct pipe laying machine

- High efficiency construction. The machine can tunnel continuously and excavate 1000m by one-time tunnelling, daily advance rate being up to 100m. Besides, excavation and pipeline laying are carried out simultaneously.

- High safety. The machine uses slurry balance mode which effectively guarantee less ground settlement. The machine can be pulled out of the tunnel by the pipe thruster, resulting in reduced construction risks.

-High-quality pipeline laying. A safe thrust technology effectively protects anticorrosive steel tubes from being damaged. A high-precision guidance system ensures an accurate breakthrough.

-Economy. Excavation and pipeline laying are done in one single step and there is no need for building reception shaft, resulting in decreased cost.

- High adaptability. Different types of cutterheads enable the machine to adapt to any complicated geologies.
