China's first electric plane, RX1E, developed by Liaoning General Aviation Academy, has received its airworthiness certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China. The aircraft sells for 980,000 yuan ($156,700), with a flight cost of less than 20 yuan per hour.

The contract signing ceremony was held at Shenyang Aerospace University, Northeast China's Liaoning province, on Feb 6. With a maximum takeoff weight of 500 kg and a cruising speed of 120 kilometers per hour, the eco-friendly, 2-seat RX1E can fly at an altitude of nearly 3,000 meters.

The RX1E is the first electric aircraft certified by China's civil aviation authority. The success means China has reached an international advanced level in the field of light electric airplanes.

The RX1E receives its airworthiness certificate from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, Feb 6, 2015.
