Bluetooth Asia attracts China's top tech brands
Bluetooth Asia, a two-day event that starts in Shanghai on Tuesday, will for the first time present top domestic brands such as Xiaomi, Huawei and Li Ning, a move that shows that an increasing number of Chinese tech companies are applying the Bluetooth technology.
"We've witnessed growing membership as well as an increase in the number of products here in China in 2014," said Suke Jawanda, chief marketing officer with Bluetooth Special Interest Group - the owner of the Bluetooth brand – on the eve of the event.
Among more than 23,000 members of Bluetooth SIG, one third are currently from Asia, and more than half of the Asian members are from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
Chinese mobile phone maker Xiaomi in July launched its wristband using Bluetooth Smart technology, in a hope to take a share from the expanding wearable product market which is projected to grow 77 percent over the next 5 years.
Other products applying Bluetooth technology, such as home appliance and electronic products, will see even higher sales growth up to 200 percent, which suggests huge potential for China market, according to Jawanda.
This year's Bluetooth Asia will feature the theme of "Internet of My Things", which will present the latest innovation on how everyday equipment can be controlled by mobile phone via Bluetooth.
