Advantages of LED traffic lights: 1. Energy saving: The advantages of LED light source in energy saving are very obvious, and it can be directly converted from electric energy to light, with almost no heat. Almost 100% of the LED visible light of the LED traffic signal lamp is used as the excitation energy. Compared with the incandescent bulb, the heat loss is 80% and only 20% of the visible light. 2. Fast response: One of the remarkable advantages of LED traffic lights is that the response time is fast, which is not as slow as that of traditional tungsten halogen bulbs. Therefore, the use of LED traffic lights can effectively reduce the occurrence of traffic accidents. 3. Long service life: The working environment of the lamp is relatively poor, with severe cold and heat, sun and rain, so it has high requirements for the reliability of the lamp. The average life of incandescent bulbs for general signal lamps is 1000h, and the average life of low-pressure tungsten halogen bulbs is 2000h, resulting in high maintenance costs. The LED traffic signal lamp has long service life and low cost because of its good impact resistance and no damage caused by filament oscillation. 4. Good impact resistance: LED traffic signal lamp is embedded in epoxy resin with semiconductor, which is not easy to be affected by vibration. Therefore, it has good impact resistance and no glass cover cracking problem. 5. No false display: In the past, when using halogen lamps, they were often reflected by sunlight, resulting in false display. The use of LED traffic lights, there is no phenomenon that the old halogen lamps are affected by the reflection of sunlight.

In 1858, red and blue mechanical wrench type signal lights with gas as light source were installed on the main streets of London, England, to direct the passage of carriages. This is the earliest traffic signal in the world. In 1868, naith, a British mechanical engineer, installed the world's first gas traffic light in the square in front of the parliament building in Westminster, London. It is composed of red and green rotary Square Glass Lantern. Red means "stop" and green means "attention". On January 2, 1869, the gas lamp exploded, injuring the police and was cancelled.

In 1914, electric traffic lights appeared in the United States. The traffic light is composed of red, green and yellow circular projectors, which are installed on a tower on 5th Street in New York City. The red light means "stop" and the green light means "pass".

In 1918, traffic lights with control and infrared traffic lights appeared again. Traffic lights with control: one is to install the pressure detector underground, and the vehicle will turn green as soon as it approaches the red light; The other is to use a loudspeaker to start the traffic lights. When the driver meets a red light, he presses the horn to turn the red light into a green light. Infrared traffic light when pedestrians step on the pressure-sensitive Road, it can detect that someone wants to cross the road. The infrared beam can extend the red light of the signal light for a period of time and delay the release of the car, so as to avoid traffic accidents.

The appearance of signal lights can effectively control traffic, which has an obvious effect on dredging traffic flow, improving road capacity and reducing traffic accidents. In 1968, the United Nations agreement on road traffic and road sign signals stipulated the meaning of various signal lights. The green light is a traffic signal. Vehicles facing the green light can go straight, turn left and turn right, unless another sign prohibits a certain turn. Vehicles turning left and right must give priority to vehicles legally driving at the intersection and pedestrians crossing the crosswalk. The red light is a no go signal. Vehicles facing the red light must stop behind the stop line at the intersection. The yellow light is a warning signal. Vehicles facing the yellow light cannot cross the stop line, but they can enter the intersection when they are very close to the stop line and cannot stop safely. Since then, this provision has become common all over the world
